Taylor vs Spinks

Thanks for the invite Champ. Taylor vs Spinks will be a good fight and what a great under card Miranda vs Pavlik to showcase Memphis boxing. - nightdog

  • The Taylor-Spinks fight card is arguably the best card held in Memphis to date.

Taylor-Spinks, Pavlik-Miranda, Forrest-Baldomir, Navarro-Ramirez, Andre Berto then on top of that we get Terry Smith, Ira Terry, Ray Smith, Ronald Hearns, DeAndre Abron....geez.

I am really expecting this fight to be near capacity as the ticket prices are %50 what they were for Taylor-Wright and you have fighters from Little Rock and St. Louis coming in.

The roof will be raised at the FedExForum May 19!

  • I think Taylor-Spinks will be better than people suspect. I'm trying to talk myself into a Spinks victory, which I don't think is that farfetched (again, differing from public perception). Spinks is a better boxer and will offer a lot more movement and pure boxing skills than Wink and Hopkins. Yes it sounds absurd that he'll outdo two future HOF'ers. But Bernard was/is in the twilight of his career, and Winky stays in the pocket far more these days. Cory will be in and out all night. His one self-hinderance will be fatigue, especially fighting 6 lb, heavier than his last two fights. We'll see what happens.

Miranda-Pavlik figures to be a can't miss slugfest - unless one of the combatants pulls an Allan Green and forgets to let his hands go. I think both of them will hit the deck, with Pavlik ultimately rallying back to knock out Pantera, though most likely not shut him up.

Forrest-Baldomir is no longer on the card, though to be honest, I'm not terribly disappointed. The rest of the undercard is enough reason for fans to show up early and enjoy.

  • Jermain Taylor has the great Emanuel Steward as his trainer. Emanuel will make Taylor a better fighter even tho Taylor is already world class, Emanuel will get him to be a little more crisp and a little more relaxed and Emanuel has had some time to work with Taylor. Taylor by decision

  • I hadn't heard about Forrest-Baldomere.
When did this happen? That stinks but your right jakendabox the card is still fantastic, get there early!

As for me, this fight has all the makings of an upset.
Spinks moving up in weight, Taylor's less than fantastic finishes in his last two fights (granted the Wright fight was great but Ouma?)

I went to the Jermain Taylor workout today and I have to say that he looked sharp. He looked strong, He looked determined. He worked out and I mean worked out. This wasn't your normal shakeout. It was a serious workout. Things really looked like they had gelled with him and Manny.

I'm just saying. I know things are different in the ring. But the body sure does tell you in what state the mind is. I think Taylor wins by KO in the later rounds but not before a fight. I think Spinks gets caught with a right hand after a jab-left hook to the body (Taylor really popped the heavy bag today).

The crazy thing is that I think if the fight goes the distance and Spinks has put in his road work, he can win this fight. The close calls in Taylor's favor, I feel, are gone. Or are they? Are the close calls now solidified with Taylor's glorious past?
